Prof Estelle Verburgh

Estelle Verburgh is associate professor in Clinical Haematology at the University of Cape Town and director of the bone marrow transplantation unit at Groote Schuur Hospital. She is a registered physician haematologist with dual qualification in clinical and laboratory haematology.

Her clinical vision is to devise timely and cost-effective strategies for haematological care in South Africa and to make haematological diagnostic approaches more accessible to non-specialists. Her research passion is implementing best care observational and interventional research pathways for the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant disorders in a collaborative environment.

She is a member of a number of haematological societies, including the American Society of Haematology (ASH) and the European Haematology Association (EHA). Nationally she is chairman-elect of the South African Stem Cell Transplantation Society (SASCeTS), treasurer of the South African Clinical Haematology Society (SACHaS) and Chairperson of the South African Bleeding Disorders Registry Working Group.
